Weekly Exercise Pledges - March 7- 13

Postby kitkat » Sun Mar 07, 2010 8:35 pm

Come and join us in our Weekly Exercise Pledges!

It's all about giving ourselves the opportunity to meet a challenge, and, whatever happens, doing more than we would have.

Just state your exercise plans for the week then post when you've done it. You can be as specific or as vague as you like in your plans. Be realistic in your goals - if you're not used to exercising or just getting back into it start off small - remember Baby Steps! At the end of the week add up your total and see how you did!

Lets get started:)
Spring is in the air- we had beautiful weather, about 48F, sunshine...

My pledge
as this is my first week back to running -
3- 42 min. running sessions - one session done:)
2- strength training
1- spinning (at least)

If I can squeeze a little yoga in there...

Hi Kitkat :D

Exercising used to be a big part of my life, until things got out of control  and taking care of myself was the first thing to go :(. Anyway, I know the benefits of exercise and am currently reaping the consequences of not exercising so it's time to boogie. Below is my commitment for this week... I'm gonna post this here to put it out there and make myself accountable.

Yoga - 2x
Cardio - 3x
Strength Training - 2x

Jenny- wonderful to have you with us:)
IKWYM when you said, "taking care of myself was the first thing to go"... However, we CAN do something about it. And, taking control of this has an impact on other areas, too.Do you work out at home or at the gym?
Best of luck with your pledge -

Hey in here! I'm back from my trip. Not a good start to the week. We had a sewage mainline block yesterday (ALWAYS on a Sunday) and dealt with that all day. It took the plumber almost 4 hrs to clear it all out. Apparently someone who has visited had decided that trash cans are not to be used for pads but instead flushed them... ARGH!!! I was so ticked! They had then caught on the small roots that had made their way into the pipe (quite common). But since it was Sunday it was almost a grand later...

My goal is to have my 500 cal deficit each day this week. My week away wasn't good (I didn't gain but .5 lbs) but it was hard not having any control of the food you ate with no options.

Sunday: Raked the whole back yard (only made a 300 cal deficit)

Did lose 1 lb last week. Will see how it goes doing part of Leslie tapes.will try for at least 6-7,000 steps this week .

Last SAt-8,000 steps -was really tired but had grandkids for 7 hrs .

CC - I bought a BodyBugg (they wear them on Biggest Loser). It calculates my daily burn to at least 90% accurate. Makes losing weight an easy game of math when the numbers are right there online when you log your food and upload your burn. It's a bit of money obviously but DH has lost 9 lbs in 3 weeks and I've lost a steady 1lb a week like I've been wanting to. Really makes you think what you eat since you see the numbers matching and creating a deficit (or surplus). But in comparison to all diet books and such I've spent money on over the years it's not that big of an investment.

Sunday: Raked the whole back yard (only made a 300 cal deficit)
Monday: Walk with DH, lots of laundry (680 cal deficit)
Tuesday: Raking and bagging leaves and lots of laundry (I'll post cals tomorrow)

Kitkat - We welcome spring, don't we?! I hope you find your runs encouraging and just challenging enough. :)

Jenny - A very warm welcome to you. :D We have all been there, those times when you realize things are spiraling in the wrong direction and something positive must be done. Acknowledging that is the first positive step. After that, every bit of progress you make to counteract a sedentary lifestyle is a plus. Those of us who hang out here do it in different ways and to varying degrees, but just being in such good company, while making ourselves accountable, helps a great deal. We look forward to your posts.

khaleas - Welcome back. That BodyBugg is certainly working for you and your Dh and anything that can produce those kinds of steady results is worth an investment in my book. There is no price that can be put on improved health and wellness.

cc - UNFORTUNATELY, this will have to be major tax week for me also. :( :( Leslie should not only help you to meet your step goals for this week, but her cheerful, pleasant personality might also help soothe your frazzled nerves.

Lovey - You have good variety going. :)

This week, I have been taking advantage of the more moderate temperatures to get in some walking. I've also been working on strength training via one session of machines at the gym and one with dumbbells and a DVD at home. In addition, I did a new (to me) total body workout from The Firm yesterday and three cardio machines at the gym today. I had to miss my classes, but am working on making the most of things in their absence.

March and April are filled with dr and vet appointments for me and Soot plus DM. Getting blood tests, ct, x-rays, colonoscopy, visits with surgeon and ontocologist. I will be getting a surgery for a herrnia sometime in there also. This week I saw surgeon and took DM to dr.

Sun - Collected amd shleeped DM and DSis garbage cans through ice and snow (I have decided to count this as exercise)
Mon - shopped in city (100 miles from home) for one and a half hours.
Tue - Walked with Soot and did some exercises with barbells later in the house

Monday: Walk with DH, lots of laundry (620 cal deficit)
Tuesday: Raking and bagging leaves and lots of laundry (685 cal deficit)

Hi, Dandelion.

Nice going, Khaleas. Keeping your body guessing, where exercise is concerned, is a good thing. :)

Kit- I spend a LOT of time going in circles ... but not mostly while I'm walking!

Adding to my exercise resume of this week:
a walk/run session and body sculpting (using both weights and resistance bands :) )

Kitkat - I'm finally done with the leaf beasties. This is the second round this year but I wanted to get some fertilizer down on the lawn before the next rain. My neighbor did nothing to his lawn this year so a lot of his had moved in with me. Plus it has been wonderful weather here the past few days so everything just explodes. We have cruddy grass and it leaves a lot of dead grass behind as well. One less thing for the dogs to track in...
Hoping to head to spinning class tomorrow, we'll see!

angelica- sounds like quite a variety for you too.
Dandelion- shlepping those cans thru ice and snow ought to count for double steps

Gma - sometimes that is the best option. I wish more people would realize how important a day off is and how it's not going to mess up any weightloss goal or make you lose all the endurance you've gained so far. If I don't take my weekly day off I crash and burn real quick.

Now if this 'cold' could decide if it's coming or going (preferably obviously). It's really messing with my plans! Not going to do an actual workout today, but I still want to get some movement in. I feel tired and feverish but I have no fever. UGH!
