WEEKLY EXERCISE PLEDGES - April 24th-29th

Post by kuruni » Mon Apr 24, 2017 11:56 am

It's all about giving ourselves the opportunity to meet a challenge, and, whatever happens, doing more than we would have.
State your exercise plans for the week then post when you've done it. You can be as specific or as vague as you like in your plans. Be realistic in your goals - if you're not used to exercising or just getting back into it start off small - remember Baby Steps! At the end of the week add up your total and see how you did!

Hello and welcome to a new week :)

Back from holidays visiting family. It was nice, the weather was great, food was great, exercise was not so great but hey it was holidays and strangely the scale does not show much weight gain, so all is well.

W: on my 1st 0,75l water bottle, need to improve that.
A: 20 min to work, 20 minutes walk during lunch break, will walk to town later. No fitness class today.
T: B: coffee no sugar, a piece of cookie, cereals with banana. L: asparagus with gravy and potatoes. Dessert: Plain yoghurt. D: proteins without calories.
E: focus on water !
R: in a good mood, hopefully it will last :)

Have a fantastic day :)

I might try out this thread, if that's OK. I think kitkat mentioned it to me once before.

So, I'm trying to train to do a half marathon in October. I will be 50 in June, so I'm no spring chicken anymore! I'm not overweight but would like to lose about 10 pounds. That would help with my running. My weight is a tad higher than the middle of the range for my height, but I'm not large boned and could weigh less. I do love to eat! :) So many things taste SO good! I don't do well drinking water and should work on that.

I had a bit of a fiasco this past weekend which set me back, mostly psychologically, I think. I was doing an 8 mile run and fell apart after 5 miles. That's unusual for me as I've run up to 7.5 miles successfully in the past. I ended up walking a bit, and in the end, I ran 7 miles and walked 1 mile. I was quite tired -- not unusual -- and rather light headed -- a bit unusual -- during the run. I do have anemia and take iron about 1 week/month due to a very heavy flow. I was just starting that week on Saturday, but I never ever use that as an excuse for not doing something. But perhaps that was related??

I follow dh's pattern for running. I alternate a medium run (5-6 miles) and a long run (right now, 7 - 8 miles) every Saturday, and I try to run 3 other times during the week + at least one day of barre class.

BTW, I'm a very slow runner. I'm happy with 11:30 mile. I'd like to pare that down, but right now, my priority is to get back to being OK with the longer runs after Saturday's incident.

I have a fitbit but only loosely track steps. I'm more interested in how I'm doing with my runs, my pace, etc. Yesterday's step count was over 10K, but I don't know any more specifically than that. LOL! Today's step count will be pretty low.

Here's my exercise plan for this week. I'm trying to remind my body that running 4 - 6 miles is familiar and comfortable. I'll try 8 miles again next weekend.

x M - run 4 miles on the flat. This went OK; my pace was slower than usual (11:51) but I generally felt OK.
T - barre class: yoga. @ 5:30.
W - run 4 miles again.
Th. - either run 2 miles of sprints (4 x 0.5 mile sprints) or run the arb hill (maybe just once this time) or run in the neighborhood, which is hilly
F - rest day
Sa. - run 6 miles on the flat. Don't worry about pace, just worry about sustaining the run and keeping it comfortable. I can push at the end if I feel like it.
Sun - rest day

Hello, Helian! Welcome aboard!! :D That's a great goal-- the half marathon.
Yes, I would say your light-headedness was related. I used to have heavy flows, also. And problems when I tried to do too much. All that is over now, though!
Drinking extra water during those times would definitely benefit.

Welcome back, Kuruni! Good to "see" you again! 8) Glad you enjoyed your holidays.

Kitkat, ping-pong with your DH sounds fun! :D

We have ten goat kids now. One mama this morning was having quite a hard time; we think her delivery was premature. One baby was quite small and chilled. But we revived it with a hot bath and blow-dryer, and it is doing well now.
I went to the park while I was in town today, but I didn't walk. I napped. :P I was really tired from trying to fight off a cold.

Mon: farm chores, 7000 steps
Tues: farm chores, goat midwifery (that is exercise, right? ), around 7000 steps.

jehanne - 10??? I'm sure you are moving! I wish I could see their pictures:)

helian - it's wonderful to have you with us! Stay a while:) You'll see how wonderfully supportive this ever-changing little group of ladies is ... I've been hanging on for the past... 10 years!
I did my one and only half marathon 7 years ago. I'd love to do another - actually, I'd love to do a full one, but it's less and less likely to happen. (DGkids take priority now, plus, this thing we don't like to talk about, is taking a toll (aging).

I'm hoping Gma is just too busy to post...

Today:
a LOT of outdoor walking with dbabies. Almost 13,000 steps, much of them uphill, on rough terrain, with stroller...

Yesterday:
just housework, but LOTS of it. I never left the house, still had 7,000 steps by the end of the day.

That's a lot of steps, kitkat and pushing a stroller uphill on rough terrain is a good workout. 10 years?! You do seem like a physically active person! Wow, you've done a half marathon. I have NO desire to do a full marathon. I'm not sure right now if I can even succeed at training for a half marathon. I'm in a bit of a slump. I'll see if I can get out of it.

I loved hearing about the goat kids, jehanne. I think goats are so cute and funny! If I lived on a farm, I'd like to have some. I think farm chores are probably good exercise.

I should track my water intake like kuruni does. I feel sure I don't drink enough.

Aging. . Yes. My body does not respond to food and exercise the way it used to. I'll just say that.

I should amend my last post; my weight is a bit above the middle of the range for my height for women. I saw a chart at WW that was for men AND women.

WW says I gained 0.8 lbs. this week. Not surprised; I haven't been consistent about tracking my eating or even trying to eat less. With running more, I feel I need to eat more, but I'm not monitoring that.

Yesterday: My 4 mile run was the exact same pace as Monday's. Maybe that's my new slower normal?

Today: jog the arb hill 1x; .55 miles to the hill (somewhat rough terrain - stones, roots, irregular dirt surfaces), 0.6 miles up, 0.6 miles down, then 0.55 miles back to where I park the car.

helian - don't get overly impressed please: my half-marathon time equaled average runners' marathon time... It was more an exercise in sticking with it than an athletic performance...
I was not active until I started on these boards. First, we had a thread where we challenged ourselves to keep working out on consecutive days. There were ladies who went past one year... It was not heavy duty exercise, but :15 daily minimum. Good for establishing the habit.
Then came this thread and I remember struggling to get my weekly exercise up to 3 hours, then 5 hours... It really did not matter whether one was walking around the block each day or swimming a couple of miles. The ladies were wonderfully supportive of each other. And, it's good to have the accountability.

I'd like to lose about 5 -8 lbs ... but I'm not overly worried about it - I tend to eat as my appetite dictates, which might be the reason for the weight:)
WTG on your training:)

Today: no idea about step count - Fitbit was charging... it showed 5,000 at the end of the day
Sculpt class :)

Quick Ci: I am currently out-of-town, still not feeling well. Also with family, since a cousin's daughter has passed away. Brain tumor, Age 31. :(

Just wanted to let you know why I am not posting. <3
